Finalizing the Insurance!!!

Hey HEY heyy!! Who misses a shotty? I know I do. But we're still here and gettin' busy cleanin' up this shiznoz. Mr. Insurance is a very nice man and is good at seeing the picture and our situation. One who can sympathize looks on, One who can empathize looks in. Or some shit like that...

It's really comin' together, but we can always use help with materials, tools, knowledge, seating materials, or what-have-you. You can call us if you have something you'd like to donate or see on one of our Shotties. Hit us up!

We might be alright, afterall!

So, we seem to have made some friends in high places. This is just an update, but we could potentially be up before the end of the month-- Which would be awesome to celebrate Shotties' independence, wouldn't it? Stay Up. We Will.

Rickshaw Renaissance

Alright, so it's pretty much the same article as was published last week in the DT Journal, but hey, we've got some space in there. Thanks to Gregory Scott for keepin' in touch! Check out the article through the link.

No Luck . . .

We've not disappeared, just yet. Still working on getting things moving. It may take a benefit show to really do that and that's still in the works as well. Thankfully, the Southwest Journal has been keeping abreast of our happenings and it looks as though the issue to be released this Tuesday will shed some light on the situation for everyone. Stay Tuned. We're not the types to get buried.

Drop the F&!*ing Hammer!

I (stormy) and 2 of my other pilots received citations last night for no licensing. So we'll be taking tonight off, but we'll be at the Lyn-Lake fest on Sunday. We will be posting a petition online and getting signatures for the appeal of these statutes and orders. We don't even make the kind of money it would take to license and insure our cabs...

For a year and a half already, we've operated. We don't have manufacturer's coverage because we build the vehicles ourselves. We can't get liability insurance because we don't have manufacturer's insurance. It costs more to insure a pedicab for the 6-month season than to insure a car for a year. Liability companies that will insure us want to insure us for 2-4 times as much money than a corporately sponsored vehicle. We are artistically inclined with our vehicles and we believe it classifies as an art project to which there are no statutes or definitions that address our particular circumstance. It frustrates people like us Shotties in general for the fact that the city, although fair in allowing us to operate, doesn't take into consideration that by having the restrictions they do has prevented many creative endeavors such as this yet allows more affluent people to move in and start making new regulations to keep the underdogs out when the vehicles they use are minneapolis-built from recycled and sustainable materials, community-based, and locally run.

We will have a petition posted online in a day or so.

Old shot from June 2009: Stormy and his friend Emily

Lyn-Lake Fest!!!

Our base of operations is not 3 blocks from Lyn-Lake. We are proud to say that we will be present for our second year @ the Lyn-Lake Fest from 12pm-7pm this coming Sunday May 16th. Call us for a ride there or we'll see you at the fair.

Back to the Streets: A Manifesto

A new day has dawned for the Shotties, ladies and gentlemen. We are fully in effect for the 2010 year. From April 15th to the Mayday parade we spent some time out getting familiar again and getting our wings back. Then what essentially can be called a 2-week rainout hit. So we've not been very active lately, but the next 10 days look good. We'll have sound and canopies on every Shotty soon as well as building new ones and we're currently organizing pubcrawls, private parties, date nights, speed dating, and a benefit show.

Some people think they know what it's like to be on one of these pedicabs, but each of our cabs is unique and has a different feel and personality (We characterize each cab with a name). It's easy to know who we are because of how we build our cabs, you sit in front--or Shotty(Shotgun). Better than starin' at someone's sweaty ass.

Here's the deal: We are and always will be a Free, Tip-based service. We do this so that anyone of any financial situation can enjoy these experiences. We don't like or want ads on our vehicles because we don't want anybody in or on them to be an advertisement for energy drinks and condoms. We are a mobile art project seeking to enhance peoples' awesomeness. We are as good at having fun ourselves as we are talented in entertaining our clientele and we'd rather have someone ON the bike than not at all. No guilt-trips here, we like what we do and we're good at it.
